DANIEL ISLAND RENTALS CELEBRATES 4 YEARS

Daniel Island Rentals, formerly known as Beresford Creek Property Management, is celebrating its fourth year on Daniel Island helping renters find a place to call home. Founded in 2006 by Hank Hanna and Dan Gowdown, Daniel Island Rentals started with one rental property and today manages approximately 200 properties on Daniel Island. The company has experienced great growth over its four years in business on Daniel Island and currently has an occupancy rate of 96 percent.

Says Dan Gowdown, "As real estate sales continue to be sluggish, we feel that we are well positioned to take on more properties and help owners turn their idle, empty properties into rental cash. We have a surplus of tenants and just need more homes to rent."

Adds Hank Hanna, "The rental market is strong and will continue to be so given the inability for a lot of folks to secure financing and the realization that renting in many cases is less expensive than owning. Another contributing factor to the strong rental market is the surge of Boeing employees relocating to Charleston--it’s a quick 10 minute commute from Daniel Island to the Boeing facilities."

The growth of Daniel Island Rentals and subsequent interest in their services from residents in other parts of the Lowcountry prompted them to establish a sister company, Charleston Rental Properties, which manages rentals off of Daniel Island. This company has been in business just under a year and is rapidly growing. Charleston Rental Properties currently manages 50 rental properties off Island and they project to have 80 by the end of this year and see continued growth in the future throughout the greater Charleston area.

"As we have already started to see on Daniel Island," says Mr. Gowdown, "We feel like over the next several years we’ll see more savvy real estate investors take advantage of the down market by using their liquidity and strong relationships with their banks to purchase investment properties." Adds Mr. Hanna, "We have thoroughly enjoyed our first four years here on Daniel Island and look forward to continuing to be a part of this community and helping all of those people who are seeking a rental property to call home as well as those homeowners and real estate investors looking to rent out their properties."

Stefanie Penland

Daniel Island Academy has promoted Stefanie Penland to Curriculum Coordinator to oversee the school’s highly rated Creative Curriculum. Previously, Penland was a full-time teacher with the school for three years.

Creative Curriculum is the nation’s leading online assessment, program planning, and reporting system for children birth to age five. Penland will work with classroom teachers to effectively implement curriculum components, including parent conferences, and developing and organizing community field trips and outreach programs.

"Our youngest children start at one year of age and each is treated as a unique learner beginning their educational life," stated Penland. "I enjoy working with the school’s teachers and their students, and helping to create an environment in which children can become eager and engaged learners for a lifetime."

Penland graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Science, Early Childhood, from the College of Charleston, and spent a semester in the study of Reggio Emilia in Italy, working with four and five year old children.
