In early December this jogger near the fire station, as well as cars along Seven Farms Drive, got a surpise when five deer ran across the road, hitting cars and a business’ window. None of the deer were killed but several cars were damaged.

Women who Wine
Women who Wine, a philanthropic group of 70-80 ladies who meet socially each month, gathered at Sally Castengera’s home to celebrate the holiday and to collect food for ECCO.
The Cannon, Grizzle, Hebebrand, Myers, Miles, Jenkins and Williams families recently kicked off football season with an entertaining afternoon of flag football at Etiwan Park.
Hundreds of people enjoyed beautiful weather and activities at Etiwan Park on Sunday, October 2 as they participated in the Down Syndrome Association of the Lowcountry (DSAL) annual Buddy Walk. The group reports that the event was a great success and a wonderful day of celebration for all people in the Lowcountry living with Down Syndrome. The Wando High School band played the National Anthem and the Hanahan High School band led the walk. Many other schools participated as volunteers, as did many businesses in the community.
On Tuesday evening, September 27, Chamber Music Charleston kicked off its 2011-2012 Daniel Island House Concert Series in the home of Nicole and Richard Joseph of Creek Landing Street.
Forty island residents came to enjoy a program that included an oboe quintet by Arthur Bliss and a Mendelssohn string quartet.
"We pick pieces that will be familiar to many or fun to hear for the first time, and will also feature the extraordinary proficiency of some of Charleston’s most talented musicians," said CMC Director, Sandra Nikolajevs.
The program, which ran just under an hour, was followed by wine and hors d’oeuvres. There are four more concerts in the series, at the homes of Polly and Richard Pekruhn (November 15), Susan and Steve Drew (January 17), Suzanne and Mike Flynn (March 20) and Deb and Rob MacPherson (May 8). Daniel Island Rotary Club recently awarded $11,000 in scholarships to assist students from the Cainhoy-Huger community with their college tuition. Since 2005, over $52,000 has been awarded to recipients through this Rotary initiative. These Rotary scholarships are made possible by the funds raised at the annual Charleston Charity Duck Race and additional funds from the Daniel Island Community Fund.
