Decorations look beautiful
I would like to say Thank You to all the workers who spent Monday in the cold and rain putting up the holiday decorations that make our island look beautiful! They were out there all day just to beautify the island and I want them to know that I appreciate them for that! That is just one of the many reasons why I love living on Daniel Island!
We are so blessed to live in such a family friendly neighborhood with so many family centered events. One such event is the annual Christmas Lighting Ceremony at the DI Holiday Festival at the Family Circle Cup. Many thanks to those who planned the event. The ceremony was filled with great holiday traditions, namely, the beautiful Christmas tree, a visit from Santa, children singing Christmas Carols, the Christmas story read to the children, hot chocolate and a bonfire with marshmallows.
However, the night was tainted by the music that followed. Children dancing to “Sexy Lady” by Jang Woo Young is not my idea of family appropriate music, especially at a holiday event. What happened to good ole Christmas music? It would have been nice and appropriate to continue the holiday theme by asking the DJ to play Christmas songs. Earlier in the week, secular and religious Christmas music filled the streets of New York City at the tree lighting ceremony at Rockefeller Center. If it’s “hip” enough for NYC, then I think it’s hip enough for Daniel Island as well. I can guarantee that my children, not to mention the hundreds of other children there, would have loved to sing and dance to “Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer” or “Frosty the Snowman”. It’s hard enough to raise respectful children in our media driven society today. Let’s keep our children young and surround them with positive influences while we can.
