Invasion of Privacy
We were looking forward to seeing The Lumineers in concert and love being able to walk to Family Circle. However, our evening’s pleasure was marred when we showed our licenses at the ‘over 21’ table to receive our wristbands and had them scanned instead and were told they were “collecting data to better market future events.” After the fact. No permissiona sought or given. This seems a gross invasion of privacy and I wonder how many of us willingly hand over our personal information without a thought. We certainly will not be doing this in future.

Duck Race Thank You
I would like to thank all Daniel Island residents who supported the Rotary Charity Duck Race. As reported by The Daniel Island News, the event raised over $100,000 for selected area charities and Rotary programs focused on literacy, children and families, wellness, hunger, and shelter. Residents should also know that all of the profit (after just the direct expenses of the race, the largest of which is the prizes) goes toward these causes. None is used for administrative costs of Rotary and all of the labor to plan and present the race is Rotary volunteer time.
The Rotary Club of Daniel Island directs the majority of its profits from the duck race to good works for the Daniel Island and Cainhoy area. An illustration of this is funding for the Daniel Island Cub Scout Pack 519 American Flag collections station on July 3rd. Bring any old American flags and the cub scouts will properly dispose of it for you – a nice way to patriotically treat our precious flag and to support a great group of youngsters here on Daniel Island.
So, thanks for making the 2013 Rotary Charity Duck Race a success. I hope that you see and experience the results of this effort during the next twelve months – and we’ll see you at duck race 2014 next June.
