The Daniel Island Property Owner’s Association is excited to be involved in a number of varied holiday activities.
Gingerbread House Competition
DeClare Cakes is honored to sponsor the first ever Daniel Island Gingerbread House Competition. Entries are being accepted now through November 26. The Gingerbread Houses will be judged and awarded cash prizes at the Holiday Festival on Daniel Island on December 1 at 4 pm. Entries are open to all ages and experience levels. Contestants Gingerbread Houses will be on display at the Holiday Festival for all to enjoy! Register for the competition at www.dicommunity.org as well as at www.declarecakes.com.
Community Tree Lighting, Laser Light Show and DJ Dance Party
Kick off your Holiday Season at the "Grand Illumination" of our Community Tree - Plus NEW THIS YEAR – a Laser Light Show and DJ Dance Party on Friday, November 30 from 5:30 – 8:00 pm! So put on your antlers and “Light Up” your night with neighbors and friends and join us, as the Daniel Island POA presents this year’s kick off to your holiday season - Daniel Island style! We’ll be flipping the switch to our 25 foot community Christmas Tree at 6 pm as well as a special, holiday "laser light show” and a "DJ’d dance party" that all ages will enjoy. All this FREE fun and more will take place at the entrance to the Family Circle Tennis Center along Seven Farms Drive. Be sure to bring the kids, as we'll have everyone’s favorite visitor from the North Pole! Be sure to be on time for this fun family event, also including story time around the tree, a few carols and a few other highlights you won't want to miss! Join us in our excitement and gather around the “big tree” as this area will be transformed into a holiday spectacle with music, laser lights synchronized to music, awesome food and beverage from “That’s How We Roll” and the DIG RIG food trucks and of course…. SANTA!
2012 Holiday Festival on Daniel Island
The Family Circle Stadium and Grand Lawn will again be transformed into an exciting outdoor Shopping and Entertainment Holiday Festival on Saturday, December 1 from 11 am - 4 pm. Shop, eat and be dazzled while strolling the Stadium Concourse and Ground Level this year, where more than 120 handpicked vendors will be there to help you with your gift list. In addition to all of our “Old Favs” that we’ll have coming back this year, we’ve added several “New” ground level attractions this year. Other “New” activities this year will be our “Polar Express” Train Rides along Candy Cane Lane at the Grand Lawn area. Teacups and Trucks will host a “Holiday Glam Station” and a “Send Your Letter to Santa” Mail Station – destination – The North Pole! Rounding out our brand new activities will be the Ho – Ho – Ho! Santa’s Village Lego Station hosted by Daniel Island Tech Savvy! There will also be plenty of entertainment to keep you in a festive mood on Center Court Stage with back-to-back singers, dancers and even a comedian this year!
This popular Lowcountry festival, open to all of Charleston and its surrounding communities, has evolved into one of Charleston's most exciting annual holiday events. Shop while enjoying festive drinks and nibbles, family entertainment on Center Court Stage as well as on Ground Level all day and much, much more! Plenty of complimentary seating provided for you to relax and enjoy the entertainment on Center Court. ATM on site. Some kids and family activities will require a fee to participate. Free admission, free parking and open to the general public. A Daniel Island Chanukah
Join us for a “Daniel Island Chanukah” on Saturday, December 8 from 4:30 – 6 pm at the entrance gates of the Family Circle Tennis Center. This event will provide education and awareness about the Jewish Holiday of Chanukah for adults and children of the Daniel Island community by hosting an enjoyable Chanukah celebration and Menorah lighting ceremony for all Daniel Islanders who wish to attend. Traditional Chanukah food and beverage will be served at the event along with traditional Jewish games. This event is free and open to the Daniel Island community.
Holiday Decorating Contest
Plan to dress up your home for this fun, annual, island-wide contest. Judging will take place the evening of Monday, December 10 between the hours of 6 – 9 pm. Make sure your lights are turned on during these hours for the judges to see. One winner per neighborhood will be chosen in the following categories: Best Overall Yard (Decorations and Lights), Best Front Door Decoration, and Best Children’s Theme. So start planning now for this memorable holiday evening! No rain date.
Luminary Event – “Island of Lights”
The Daniel Island School PTA invites you to join us in its 1st island-wide luminary event! Available for purchase are kits, which include luminary bags, sand and candles to be placed along the curb (about 5ft apart; walkways, porches, etc. optional) this holiday season. See the ad in this week’s paper for information on ordering the kits.
