Great Service provided

As a long standing business owner on Daniel Island, I would like to share with you, my fellow island residents, the experience I had with another island business. I was first introduced to Paul Comer Small Engine Services by my wife as she read the classifieds in The Daniel Island News. As it happened, I needed precisely that, someone to do small engine services on my 7 year old push mower. I know that these types of machines are not expensive and I could have easily scrapped the one I had for a brand new model. However, I also knew that these little engines are well built and should, with proper maintenance and minimal repairs, last many, many years. So, I needed to weight the costs of repair versus the cost of buying a new machine. Repair won. I called several places in the Mt. Pleasant area and was quoted prices upward of $125 to repair a suspected carburetor problem. That’s when my wife showed me Mr. Comer’s listing. It was almost too good to be true. He would come to my house, pick up my lawn mower, take it to his house, fix the problem, change the oil and filter, sharpen the blades, clean the mower and return it to my house all for $50 and the cost of parts.

Turns out that it wasn’t too good to be true. Mr. Paul Comer did everything he said he would for the price he told me. The problem was one that could easily be fixed with a new small part and the added expense would be $19. So, for a grand total of $69, I now have a 7 year old lawn mower that runs like it is brand new...and I literally did not need to lift a finger. Mr. Comer did everything. I can not say how happy I am to know that a business like Paul Comer Small Engine Services is located right here on the island and I hope its here for years to come. If you need them, simply call 860-8145. Kudos Mr. Comer!

Sincerely,

unhappy about parking tickets

I moved to Daniel Island in July of 2001. We have never had any issues with street parking except for the occasion of two cars parking directly across from each other at Scott Street pool making it difficult to maneuver bigger SUVs down Corn Planters St.

My husband walked out front to get in his car on Friday only to find a parking ticket on the windshield for parking on the street against traffic. It was entitled "revenue generating" in the amount of $22. So all of the sudden they are going to enforce which side of the street we park on out of the blue?  No issues for 8 years. How about a warning? If the city wants to generate revenue so desperately how about monitoring the speeding that occurs daily on my street?

I’ve have called and written about the speeding on Fairchild Street numerous times only to have one police officer come out during a time of day when no one is driving and sit in plane view.  When I went to speak with him he told me no one had sped down the street since he was there.  Of course, everyone is at work and those that are driving down the street saw the police car and drove the 25 mile per hour limit.

Want to generate some real revenue and perhaps save a child’s life?  How about sending the police to sit near Codner’s Ferry Park (out of sight) and monitor the speeding. They will generate lots of revenue!
