Activities and Traffic Plan for 9/11 Heroes Run

The 9/11 Heroes Run 5K race course begins directly in front of the Charleston Fire/Police Station located at 235 Seven Farms Drive. Runners will start out heading towards River Landing Drive where they will take a right onto River Landing Drive. Runners will continue down River Landing Dr to the end and go around the roundabout and head straight back up to Seven Farms Drive. From there, they will take a left onto Seven Farms until they hit Daniel Island Drive. Runners will take a left onto Daniel Island Drive and head down until they hit Purcell Lane, where they will make an immediate U-turn and head back towards Seven Farms. Once they hit Seven Farms, they will take a right and head straight back to the Finish Line located directly in front of the Fire/Police Station.

Organizers of the 9/11 Heroes Run encourage you to join them at the 9/11 Heroes Run 5K, to be held on Saturday, September 7. The 9/11 Heroes Run is part of a nationwide race series to honor those lost on 9/11, their families, and all military and emergency responders that sacrifice their lives for our country and our communities
While online registration has closed, there will be additional onsite registration both during packet pickup on Friday, September 6, 10 am until 8 pm, as well as on race day (9/7) beginning at 6:30 am. Packet pickup and onsite registration will take place at the Charleston Fire/Police Department on Seven Farms Drive. Individual registration is $35 or a Family/Team of 4 is $120. Please bring cash or check only, payable to the Travis Manion Foundation.   
On Saturday, September 7, pre-race warm up begins at 7:35 am with presenting race sponsor, Crossfit Discovery! This warm up will last approximately 5 minutes, and will take place next to the Charleston Fire Department on Seven Farms Drive. Opening ceremonies start at 7:40 am and include presentation of the flags by the Charleston Fire Department Honor Guard, a bagpipe performance by the Charleston Police Pipes and Drums, the singing of our National Anthem and a motivational speech from two local hometown heroes.  
The run will start at exactly 8 am, leading men and women of all ages on their journey to honor our true American heroes! The run will begin at the Charleston Fire/Police Department on the corner of Seven Farms and go down River Landing Drive around the Children's Park, heading back to Seven Farms Drive. From there, runners will take a left back onto Seven Farms and then a left at the intersection of Seven Farms and Daniel Island Drive. Runners will then head down to Purcell Lane where they will make an immediate U-turn and head back to Seven Farms, finishing the race back in front of the Fire/Police Station. There will be traffic delays and road closures along the race course.
Seven Farms Drive between the intersections of River Landing Dr. and Daniel Island Dr. will be closed from 7:30 am until 9 am.  Other streets involved with our race route will be closed at approximately 8 am and reopened as soon as the last participant clears that part of the course, not to last longer than 9 am. These streets include Daniel Island Drive and River Landing Drive. Residences and businesses along the race route are strongly encouraged to use your rear parking, if available.
Participants and supporters are encouraged to arrive early to take advantage of the street parking along Seven Farms Drive and Island Park Drive.  Overflow parking will be available in the developer lots on Island Park Drive, across the street from Publix.      
Once the runners/walkers have finished, there will be an awards ceremony at 9:30 am at Simmons Park (next to the Fire Station) and raffle prizewinners will also be announced. Afterward, runners are encouraged to head over to the Daniel Island Grille where they will be opening early and offering a brunch menu, as well as drink specials!
