The Daniel Island Flying Fish, the island-wide swim team, started its season this week. One hundred and seventy-two boys and girls, competing in age groups ranging from six and under to 15-18, compete against swimmers from across the lowcountry every Tuesday and Thursday night between now and the three-day championship meet, which is held July 18-22 at the Jewish Community Center in West Ashley.

The team practices at Pierce Park Pool every morning before many residents are awake. The team competes at home on June 15, 22, 29. Additionally, the 5-6 year old championship meet will be held on Daniel Island on July 13. On home meet days, Pierce Pool closes at 5 p.m.
