Halbauer wins Dunlop Junior Tennis Championship, awarded wildcard FCC

Eleanor Adams, Family Circle Cup Tournament Manager, presents a check to Girls’ 18 winner Ellie Halbauer of Boca Raton, Florida, who won over Kaitlyn McCarthy of Cary, NC 3-6, 6-2, 10-8. With the victory, Halbauer who grew up on Daniel Island, was awarded a wildcard berth to the Family Circle Cup Qualifying Round.



A former Daniel Island resident, Ellie Halbauer, who practiced at the Family Circle Tennis Center before moving three years ago to Boca Raton, won the Girls 18 division of the.Dunlop Junior Tennis Championship, held this past weekend at the Family Circle Tennis Center and area courts. Each year, 340 regionally and nationally ranked junior tournament players arrive the third weekend in February to Charleston to participate in the USTA Southern Level 3 sanctioned Dunlop Junior Tennis Championship presented by Dunlop Sports. The Girls’ 18 division winner receives a wildcard into the qualifying rounds (March 29 – 30) of the Family Circle Cup.
Halbauer of Boca Raton, Florida  won the Girls 18 division over Kaitlyn McCarthy of Cary, NC 3-6, 6-2, 10-8. With the victory, Halbauer was awarded a wildcard berth to the Family Circle Cup.
Past winners of the Dunlop Junior Championship include Daniel Island’s Shelby Rogers (WTA Ranking 119) and Alison Riske (WTA Ranking 46).
Athletes competing in the Dunlop Junior Tennis Championship from Daniel Island and the Charleston area include:, Stanley Waters (Isle Of Palms), Maxwell Smith (Daniel Island), Sam Kavarana (Mount Pleasant), Chad Nash, Coy Simon (Hanahan), Mark  Militzer (Mount Pleasant), Jonathan Edwards (Isle Of Palms), Adam Elliget, (Summerville), Alexander Santiago (Isle Of Palms), Samantha Schuster, (Charleston).
