Hanahan’s offense is prolific. Hanahan’s defense is stingy and prolific.
Hanahan rolled into town and rolled over Bishop England Friday night. While the Hawks put up 35 points against BE, and 41 last week against Timberland, it’s their defense that is dominating, having blanked both teams in the last two weeks.
And it was Hanahan’s defense that put the Bishops away midway through the third quarter, scoring 14 points in an 11 second span with two fumble recoveries returned for touchdowns.
With both sides of the stadium full and showing huge fan support, the Hawks jumped out to a 21-0 lead in the first half. Quan Wade scored the first three touchdowns for Hanahan with punishing running scores of 7, 1, and 7 yards respectively. Wade finished with 102 total rushing yards, averaging 6.4 yards per carry.
But it was the Hawks defensive scores in the third quarter, a 66-yard fumble return by Marlon Washington with 8:20 remaining in the third quarter and a 22-yard fumble return by Keem Lewis at the 8:09 mark that put the game away.
The Bishops, who are fielding a young and inexperienced team after having a huge turnover from their state championship Class AA team from a year ago, are 0-2. This week they travel across town to play Porter Gaud, 2-1.
The Class AAA Hawks have a bye this week, and play at Edisto on Friday, September 20 for another non-league game.  After their victory over BE, the Hawk’s state Class AAA ranking improved from third to second.
