Nick Pizzo scores the winning goal in a sudden death shootout during a national championship game.
Pizzo's teammates celebrate the win!

The 16U Charleston Junior Stingray AA hockey team competed in the 2013 Tier II USA National Championships on April 3-7 in Troy, Michigan. Forty state champions, representing states throughout the country, faced off in the five day, highly competitive tournament.
Under two minutes into the first matchup against the Nashville Jr Predators, Daniel Island resident Nick Pizzo caught a puck on a breakaway and scored the tournament’s first goal. The Jr Predators went on to outscore the Jr Stingrays 6-2.
The Juniors Stingrays faced Mission Hockey, from Arizona, in the second contest and rallied to tie the game in the final minutes of regulation. After a scoreless overtime, Nick Pizzo took to the ice for the Ray’s first attempt in the shootout and scored with a wrist shot, high and away. The shootout ended in yet another tie, and Pizzo stepped out again in the sudden death shootout, this time faking the high and away shot, pulling it back and dropping a loft shot over the goalie’s shoulder for the win. The victory marked the first win of a low-country team at the National Championship level.
The Rays fell just short in their final game in an overtime loss, a win that would have placed them in the tournament quarterfinals.
