The MTPJGA (Mount Pleasant Junior Golf Association) celebrates another successful summer season of junior golf tournaments. The MTPJGA is one of 20 statewide chapters and is part of the SC Junior Golf Association. The MTPJGA partnered with the YMCA to run the summer tournament series. The chapter was started 3 years ago with 75 kids and has grown to approximately 140 kids according to chapter director and Daniel Island resident Jeff Burton. Junior golfers got a chance to play several of the best local courses and gained incredible exposure and tournament experience in the game of golf.  The all star players who qualified for the SC state tournament at Seabrook were:

Boys 8-9 Drayton Stewart and JJ Keene

Boys 10-12 Kyle Spencer and Wil Sheppard

Boys 13-14 Josie Griffith and Lucas McNellis

Boys 15-18 Austin Zoller and Andrew Novak

Girls 8-10 Lexi Lucarelli and Sarah Ellis Beaver

Girls 11-13 Molly Park and Kate Harper

Girls 14-18 Waverly-Ann Walthall and Amelia Goodwin

Kate Harper took 1st and DI resident Molly Park took 3rd place in the girls’ 11-13 yr. old division.  Waverley-Ann Walthall placed 4th in girls 14-18. Drayton Stewart placed 3rd and JJ Keene 5th in boys 8-9. Kyle Spencer and Wil Sheppard tied for 3rd in boys 10-12.  Andrew Novak shot even par on the final day to go from 8th to grab 2nd place while Austin Zoller captured 4th.

Overall, the MTPGJA girls placed 2nd and the boys placed 3rd at the SC state tournament.     In the 3 year history of the MTPJGA, they have 4 junior golfers win state champion titles for their age division.
