Placekicker Ryan Succop of the Kansas City Chiefs will be in Charleston Tuesday, March 22nd to benefit the Lowcountry Fellowship of Christian Athletes. Succop is the former placekicker for the USC Gamecocks and has the distinction of being "Mr. Irrelevant" – the last man chosen in the 2009 NFL draft. Succop finished his rookie season tying an NFL record for highest field goal percentage by a rookie in a season with 86.2%, passing NFL Hall of Famer Jan Stenerud for most field goals made by a rookie in Chiefs history. He scored more points (104) than any other rookie in the NFL that year, and this placed him second in Chiefs history in scoring by a rookie. The event will be a banquet held at The Citadel Holiday Alumni House.
Succop is passionate about FCA and the impact it has on coaches and athletes. He was very involved with FCA at USC. Succop will be joined at the banquet by Adrian Despres, a nationally known inspirational speaker and chaplain of the USC football team. Ever since making it to the NFL, Succop gives back to FCA and the community by speaking at several FCA events a year.
Blake Pearce, Lowcountry FCA Board Chairman says "FCA is excited to have Ryan Succop participate with us in this event. The Lowcountry FCA had made a positive impact in our middle schools, high schools and college communities." Pearce is a graduate of the University of SC and encourages his fellow alumni to come and support this event.
The Fellowship of Christian Athletes is the largest Christian campus ministry in the world. In the past year, FCA reached more than 340,050 people on 6,801 campuses and worked with more than 46,944 coaches and athletes at camps across the globe. FCA’s purpose is to combine people’s passion for sports with their passion for Christ and teach them that those two worlds don’t have to be separate.
This event is sponsored by several businesses in the Charleston area. People wishing to sponsor, attend and support this ministry are encouraged to call the Lowcountry FCA office at 375-0418 or contact Emmett Morgan at email@example.com or go to www.lowcountryfca.org.
