Daniel Island resident Jill Hiers, who runs one of the local book clubs, provided this capsule report on the club’s history:

"We started 4 years ago. The original group met in the pool, all new to Daniel Island and had never been in a book club before. We have 10 members, we meet 11 months in the year (not December). Each member hosts the group in her home and the host chooses the book and prepares lunch for everyone. We have read a wide variety of books [and] we do expect members to ‘read the book.’

"We attend the Author luncheon at Wild Dunes each January and pick a book from one of the authors on the panel. The lunch was this past weekend and we will read ‘Girls in Trucks’ by Katie Crouch for our February meeting. We meet monthly, have lunch and then discuss the book.

"Some books we have read in the past few year are: Ford County, Shoot the Moon, The White Tiger, Emma, Georgiana Duchess of Devonshire, Down River, The book Thief, The Help and Return to Sullivan’s Island."
