Did you know that when the terrorist attack occurred at the Boston Marathon a year ago, the American Red Cross contacted the Carolinas Blood Services Region FIRST? Why? Because the Carolinas are known to be generous and speedy with their donations.
Every two seconds, someone in the U.S. needs blood but during the summer it can be difficult for the American Red Cross to collect enough blood to meet patient needs. Donations through the Red Cross are down approximately 8 percent over the last 11 weeks, resulting in about 80,000 fewer donations than expected. Due to this, the Red Cross is currently facing a looming blood shortage, leading to an urgent need for donors of all blood types. The need for blood donors with types O negative, B negative and A negative is especially urgent.
For several years, The Bishop England High School Key Club has made a conscious effort to help the Red Cross maintain the local blood supply. The school holds three blood drives each school year and the student body donates 30-35 pints at each drive.
This year Bishop England is also serving as host for the 5th annual Daniel Island Community Blood Drive which will be Tuesday, July 29, from 1-6pm.  They invite the entire Daniel Island Community as well as the Bishop England family to come donate blood and give the gift of life at the school’s Performing Arts Center !
All presenting donors will receive the following, while supplies last: a box of Girl Scout cookies, a ticket to Cinebarre a t-shirt (with the help of Privatei Print Promotions), and a slice of pizza from Daniel Island’s vey own Vespa Pizzeria! What more could you ask for?
Please consider donating your time and life-saving blood and call Bernice O’Brien at 849-9599 ext 350 or sign up  online at www.redcrossblood.org and enter sponsor code: community. You can also call 1-800-RED-CROSS (1-800-733-2767) if you have any questions.
