The National Golf Course Owners Association is a not-for-profit organization and is the only trade association dedicated exclusively to golf course owners and operators throughout the United States and around the world. The NGCOA is a valuable source of information and education and serves as an advocate for 5,000 golf course owners—from those who run 9-hole facilities in rural locations to owners of the largest and most popular golf destinations. While diverse in its makeup, the Association serves as a resource for a critical need in today’s ever-changing golf industry: information and inspiration on how to operate facilities as efficiently and profitably as possible.
The NGCOA was established in 1979 and has been on Daniel Island since 2002. Today it is recognized as one of the most important and influential organizations in golf, producing the industry’s #1 trade magazine, largest purchasing program and 2nd largest trade show. CEO Mike Hughes has been a resident of Daniel Island since 2006.

Michael Bannister Family Dentistry is celebrating ten years on Daniel Island—it was one of the first businesses to open up shop. Before that, the dental practice was located in downtown Charleston. “I don’t miss it!” Bannister says, adding that his patients enjoy better parking and less traffic. “Many of my patients in North Charleston, Downtown and West Ashley stayed with us when we moved to Daniel Island because of the easy access.” Bannister adds that he enjoys the island’s family atmosphere and getting to see the community grow.
Bannister Family Dentistry specializes in all aspects of dentistry for people of all ages (cosmetic, periodontic, pediatric, and endodontics) in a casual and friendly atmosphere. “We take the stress out of going to the dentist,” Bannister says.
Daniel Island Animal Hospital
Contact: Abby Suiter
Daniel Island Animal Hospital is a veterinary family practice dedicated to keeping your pets healthy and happy. It was founded in 2004 by veterinarian, Dr. Lynne M. Flood, to provide convenient, personalized care to the many family pets who share the homes, parks, and trails of the island town. “Over the years we have enjoyed growing with our community, and forming a skilled and compassionate team of veterinarians, technicians, and support staff,” Flood says.
The mission of Daniel Island Animal Hospital is to improve pets’ quality of life by educating owners on preventive health care and by providing routine medical, dental and surgical care for pets in all life stages. “We strive to provide quality service with fair pricing, and we work to keep ourselves current in the ever-changing world of veterinary medicine.”
In the next few months, pets and their owners will enjoy a larger and renovated facility. Construction is underway to add 1200 square feet by expanding into the space that was formerly Island Town Cafe.
