Daniel Island residents Tanya Gallo and Amy Dietrich organized a kids book swap last week at Smythe Park. Through a grassroots email and word of mouth campaign, over 30 kids exchanged about 300 books. Participants were encouraged to go through their children's books and pull out the ones they've read and are ready to pass on. They met at the picnic tables next to the pirate park at noon and started the book swap at 12:30.  All the kids were given bags and walked around to the tables choosing new books they wanted to read. A picnic lunch followed the book exchange. The kids played, were reading to each other and having a great time.  All of the remaining books were donated to Dee Norton Lowcountry Children's Center, www.dnlcc.org.
