There was some shuffling in the pool of candidates for Berkeley County Supervisor over the weekend.
On Friday, soon-to-be retired U.S. Representative Henry Brown, (R–S.C.), a Berkeley County native who is finishing his fifth and final term in his congressional post, announced that he would be entering the supervisor race.
The next day, at a breakfast for Berkeley County Republicans, supervisor candidate Terry Hardesty removed himself from the running. Hardesty, who is currently a member of the Berkley County School Board, announced on his campaign’s Facebook page that he will be "entering the race for Berkeley County Council District 6" instead.
In addition to Brown, the other candidates vying for Berkeley County’s top executive job are current Supervisor Dan Davis, Hanahan Mayor Minnie Blackwell, and local businessman and real estate broker Jean Woods. According to the Berkeley County Voter Registration and Election Office, a primary election for the supervisor post is scheduled to take place in June, followed by a run-off election (if needed) two weeks later. The general election will be held in November. Those interested in joining the race must file during the official filing period, slated for March 16 through March 30.
Berkeley County Democratic Party Convention set for this Saturday
The Berkeley County Democratic Party will hold its convention Saturday, March 13, 2010 at Berkeley Middle School on Live Oak Dr. in Moncks Corner from 9-12. Several candidates for statewide office will speak. County party elections will be held. Delegates to the state convention will be elected. A light breakfast will be served.
