On Wednesday June 4, Cainhoy Fire Department responded to 102 Clouter Creek Drive in the Shellring neighborhood for a reported structure fire with people possibly trapped inside. Cainhoy Fire Department was dispatched at 3:16 pm and immediately requested mutual aid from Charleston County to respond as well.
The first units from Cainhoy and the City of Charleston arrived on scene at 3:27 pm. Upon arrival, crews found heavy smoke and fire showing from the three (3) story house, with exposure concerns to two (2) nearby houses. The owner of the house was just returning home as the first fire trucks arrived. When crews arrived on scene they confirmed with the owner that nobody was inside the house.
Crews made an aggressive attack and brought the fire under control in approximately twenty (20) minutes. Crews were also able to stop the fire from spreading to the nearby houses. Crews remained on scene for approximately four (4) hours to douse hotspots and ensure that all of the fire was extinguished. No occupant or firefighter injuries were reported. The home is believed to be a total loss.
The cause of the fire is under investigation, and more information will be released once the investigation is complete. Cainhoy Fire Department was assisted on scene by the City of Charleston Fire Department, North Charleston Fire Department, and St. Andrews Fire Department. Berkeley County EMS and Charleston Police Department also responded to the scene.
