Gunshots fired?

A resident in the Peninsula subdivision called police in the early morning hours of August 17 to report that he had heard three gunshots fired "in close proximity" to his home. The complainant also stated that moments after the gunshots, he spotted two males, one wearing a black ski mask, run past his home into a wooded area. According to the police report filed on the incident, the resident said he did not see either party carrying a firearm. Several citizens in the area also reported hearing gunshots that evening. Officers patrolling the area on foot were not able to locate any shell casings or subjects. A K-9 unit also responded to the scene.

Drugs/Narcotics

Just before 4 a.m. on August 17, an officer from Daniel Island-based Team 5 was on patrol on Seven Farms Drive when he noticed two males on bicycles heading past Bishop England High School towards Etiwan Park Street. According to the police report filed, the riders were in violation of several bicycle regulations, including riding without headlights on bikes at night, not displaying registration stickers on bikes, riding in an oncoming traffic lane, and turning without hand signaling. After ordering both cyclists to stop, using the patrol car’s public announcement system, the officer asked them what they were doing and advised them of the bicycle laws. He noted that one of the suspects, a 19 year old with an address located off Clements Ferry Road, "was visibly nervous and fidgeting with his right front pocket." After searching the teen, the officer found two small bags of a green leafy plant material that appeared to be marijuana. The offender was arrested for possession of marijuana in the first degree and transported to the Charleston County Detention Center.

On August 27, police responded to an apartment community on Clements Ferry Road in reference to possible drug paraphernalia. The manager of the complex told police that workers making repairs to one of the units noticed a large bong on the kitchen counter along with several other narcotics paraphernalia and marijuana. The manager documented all items by taking photos of them with her cell phone, according to the police report. The City of Charleston Police Department’s narcotics division was notified and a search warrant was executed.

Recovery of stolen vehicle

A Daniel Island resident’s car, allegedly stolen from a location on Remount Road in North Charleston around 12:30 am on August 17, was found nearly seven hours later in a ditch on Sportsman’s Island Drive, located just past the I-526 and Clements Ferry Road intersection on Thomas Island. According to a police report filed on the incident, a dispatcher with the City of Charleston Police advised Team 5 officers that a tan SUV was found "unoccupied and wrecked" into the ditch. The victim, a 19 year old male, told police that after the vehicle was stolen he walked from North Charleston to a gas station along Clements Ferry Road, where he called police to report the crime at approximately 4:49 am. Police made contact with the victim’s father, who is listed as the owner of the vehicle, to advise him of the car’s recovery.
