Daniel Island News writer Jennifer Johnston, pictured here interviewing Samantha Stosur earlier this week, won top honors at the SC Press Association for her body of work in the field of health reporting.

Two members of The Daniel Island News staff were recently recognized by the South Carolina Press Association for excellence in their field.
Writer Jennifer Johnston was awarded the top prize for all weekly newspapers for her body of work in health reporting.
The judges noted, “The writer engages the reader by using interesting, relevant facts and meaningful quotes. Articles are informative and effective in explaining health matters. Writing is clear and well-organized.”
Graphic Artist Dionne Gadsden was awarded first and second place in Photo Page Design. Her centerfold spread, titled “Idyllic Smythe Lake” won first place and her “Kid’s Fish” design took second.
