Five Years Ago
In the June 18, 2009 edition of the paper, we featured a story about the recent birth of triplets to the Daniel Island Gowdown family
In top news, we reported that sewer work and its potential impact on a 7,600 foot sewer force main that would tie-in at Pump Station 84 on Daniel Island Drive  and extend down Cape Street and Etiwan Park Street before crossing under Seven Farms Drive. It will then travel through the Bishop England High School property and along the Daniel Island utility corridor (near the Blakeway Street bike path) where it will eventually tie into the CWS treatment plant.
In other top news, we ran a story about the Daniel Island Rotary Duck Drop winner Deb Westbury, whose $15,000 winnings couldn’t have come at a better time as she had recently been laid off and her husband had an unexpected surgery.
In business news, former Daniel Island water hole, The Soda Water Grill, opened a new location in Mt. Pleasant and island law firm Hinchey, Murray and Pagliarini moved into the BB&T building.
In sports, the Flying Fish scored big at its first meet, defeating Dunes West 343-190. The featured artist of the week was Daniel Island resident Steve Hazard.

Ten Years Ago
In the June 17, 2004 edition of the paper our cover feature, centerfold, roving reporter and kids say featured Father’s Day, including features for day trips with dad to Charlestown Landing and the Animal Forest.
In other news, Berkeley County Supervisor Jim Rozier informed island residents at a recent Daniel Island Neighborhood Association meeting that a library should open on the island in about six months; the 2004 South Carolina Police Corps cadets fifteen member class was back on Daniel Island, marking the fourth year the Corp used Bishop England High School for defensive tactics training; Potts of Coffee opened on Memorial Day and island residents were taking full advantage of its unique and varying atmosphere.
In sports, the Flying Fish won their first home meet at Pierce Park Pool, defeating St. Andrews 271-253. It was a close and exciting match-up, with the outcome determined by the final few free relay races.
