Flying Fish win two meets
Last week the skies cleared and the Flying Fish were able to get back in the water and continue their season in the Red League of the Coastal Carolina Aquatics Association (CCAA). On Tuesday, June 23, the Flying Fish hosted Shadowmoss at Pierce Pool and on Wednesday Daniel Island traveled to Ashborough for a meet that was re-scheduled from a stormy night on June 11. Daniel Island’s victory over Shadowmoss (321-212) and Ashborough (288-248) are their first two wins in the Red league, improving their league record to 2-1 (3-1 overall). While the wins are nice, Coach Rose Van Metre is happy with the improvements she has seen with the team. "What is really important is that the swimmers are learning, they’re bettering their times and gaining confidence," said Van Metre.
Co-president Rita Ryan also likes what she is seeing as the season progresses. Added Ryan, "We’re up against some great swimmers in the Red League. The teams, in general, are very experienced. Most have been in this league for awhile and understand the level of competition. We are proving that we’ve earned a spot in this league and hope to continue having some great meets while having fun too!"
This week the Daniel Island Swim Team travels to Northbridge Terrace for a meet on Tuesday, June 30. On July 2, the Flying Fish will host their third home meet of the season against the Coosaw Creek Crocodiles. Start your July Fourth celebrations early by coming out to cheer on the Flying Fish! The meet starts at 7 p.m. (no admission fee) and concessions are available.
