Daniel Island’s Will Kramer, a SMRT swimmer, finished sixth in the state in the boys 11-12 50-yard freestyle, besting his owner personal time by improving from his 26th-place seedtime of 29:34 to 27:22. With the swim, Kramer qualified for the Southern Sectional championships to be held in North Carolina in March.

Kramer attributed his improvement to a healthy competition between he and a friend, "I was motivated to catch his times," he said.

Kramer also competed in seven other events plus team relays at the meet.

"It was just cool to compete with people who are great swimmers and push you to be better. All the athletes were very friendly…down on deck it didn’t matter what team you were swimming with."
