The Luck of the Irish

Posted in: Marriage Minute

You might think that the Irish need some "luck" regarding marriage. In rural areas of Ireland, arranged marriages were common up until the twentieth century. Surely anyone getting married to a stranger would need some kind of luck to help them make it through marital life! In ancient Ireland, the bride and groom didn’t know each other well but a Celtic wedding vow leads us to believe that they had a good idea of what a strong marriage required. The bride and groom made strong pledges to each other.
