NEW RESTAURANT IN TOWN: PIZZA SHOP TO REPLACE SODA WATER GRILL
Daniel Island will soon welcome a Neapolitan wood-fired oven pizza restaurant, according to Tony Berenyi, who confirmed that Daniel Island resident Gerry Haight is lining up to take the space being vacated by Soda Water Grill. Berenyi owns the building where Soda Water Grill is located.
Berenyi estimated that it will take roughly 60-90 days for the build-out, and said he has been impressed by Haight’s vision for the new restaurant.
"The new owners have capital to invest, and have been to the right consultants, the right people, to find out what works and what doesn’t work." Noting that the Haights will bring "new blood and new energy," Berenyi added, "I think the island needs a good family-style pizza place."
Berenyi said that Soda Water Grill, his tenants for the last eight years, "have done a good job" but have clearly struggled during these soft economic times. Soda Water Grill’s last day on Daniel Island is this coming Saturday, March 14, 2009. They plan to relocate to Mt. Pleasant, hoping for a grand opening as soon as late April.
