DI PUBLIX IS EXPANDING

The Daniel Island Publix grocery store is expanding. Publix spokesperson Kimberly Reynolds confirmed last week that the store, currently about 27,000 square feet, will nearly double in size to 49,000 square feet when construction is complete. Although a start date for the renovation project has yet to be announced, Reynolds said work should be complete by the end of next year. The store is not expected to close during the construction process.

“Our plan at this time is for the store to remain open during construction so that we can continue taking care of our Daniel Island customers,” stated Reynolds. “Each of the fresh departments will be expanded as well as the grocery aisles allowing for a larger selection of products and services. We are excited to bring Daniel Island an even greater shopping experience.”

The newly expanded store will also include a pharmacy, as well as more prepared foods in the deli, added Reynolds.

DI RESIDENT OPENS ORTHODONTIC PRACTICE

Charleston Orthodontic Specialists will open its first Lowcountry office in Summerville on July 3. The practice is owned by Daniel Island resident Dr. Nick J. Savastano, who has been providing patients with orthodontic care since 2003. He previously ran a successful orthodontic practice in Orlando, Florida, before deciding to return to his home state of South Carolina.

Charleston Orthodontic Specialists is the only provider of Mascot Braces in the Charleston area, stated a press release, giving patients the opportunity to sport logo-shaped brackets from either the USC Gamecocks or the Clemson Tigers. The new Summerville office is located at 1101 N. Main St., Suite 305 (in the Earth Fare plaza). The public is invited to a grand opening celebration from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, July 15. Anyone who gets a free screening during the grand opening event will be entered into a drawing for free braces. There will also be refreshments, prizes and entertainment.
