A garden of fun at Daniel Island Academy!
Daniel Island Academy was thrilled to host the Daniel Island Garden Club earlier this month for a tour of the facility’s gardens. The 4-year old Clownfish class conducted the tour, showing garden club members all of the yummy foods DIA has growing on the property! The Clownfish explained how each time they harvest the garden, each class does a taste test with what’s been collected.
“Our chef uses items we’ve grown to prepare our meals, and we also send home herbs and veggies with our families!” stated a DIA press release. “They also shared with the members how each class here contributes to making sure our garden is thriving by watering and weeding!”
“Giving children the opportunity to care for our garden encourages healthy eating habits here in our classrooms and at home!” added DIA Director Kerry Nowosielski. “Our garden is an important extension of each classroom. We see it as a way to connect students to their environment while instilling life skills and a sense of community within the classrooms and the entire school.”
Students have learned that planting a garden requires teamwork, patience and perseverance, continued the release.
