Catch some great memories!

Kids grow up fast. Really fast. As parents, the things that we do with our children today will be memories that we treasure when they are grown. It is also how our children will remember us when we are gone. When I think of my father, I recall countless fishing trips together. Each memory full of fun and filled with laughter. Given my father’s example, I have endeavored to do the same with my children. Some would say, I may have taken this to the extreme!

Thankfully, now that Elliott and Maddie are grown, they still like to fish with me. On Friday, Maddie and I went on a late afternoon fishing trip. The weather was hot and humid. However, it was pretty comfortable when the skiff was under way. So, we fished a little and rode around a lot. We did not catch many fish but we had great fun. Perhaps, that is the best catch of all.

If you want to begin catching fishing memories with your children, the Daniel Island Kids Fishing Tournament is a great place to start. The event is sponsored by the Daniel Island Inshore Fishing Club and presented by Scout Boats. It will be held on Saturday, June 16, Father’s Day weekend, at Smythe Park Lake. Children ages 4 to 15 of families who reside or work on Daniel Island are eligible to enter as anglers in the tournament. Angler registration forms and tournament instructions can be found at various locations throughout Daniel Island including Publix, Qwik Pack & Ship, Daniel Island Library, DIPOA, and SunTrust Bank. Additional information can be found at the Daniel Island Inshore Fishing Club website:  http://danielislandinshorefishing.com.
