Daniel Island community mourns the passing of two beloved residents

In the last several weeks, Daniel Island lost two beloved residents – both of whom were devoted family members, avid promoters of youth sports, and engaged citizens of the community. Meghan Mulqueen Taylor and Charles “Chuck” Dennis touched the lives of many during their time on this earth. We join with the entire community in mourning their loss. On these pages are the obituaries provided by their families.

MEGHAN MULQUEEN TAYLOR

October 16, 1970 – October 13, 2018

Meghan O’Hagen Mulqueen Taylor of Daniel Island passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 13, 2018 at the age of 47, with her family by her side. A beloved wife, mother, daughter, sister, cousin, friend and coach, Meg was born on Oct. 16, 1970 in Bryn Mawr, PA to Michael J. Mulqueen (deceased) and Katherine “Kay” Kearney Mulqueen. She grew up spending her time with family and friends in her tight knit family.

Meghan attended Marple Newton High School, in Newtown Square, PA where she was an outstanding lacrosse and field hockey player. Meg was a three-year starter on both the varsity lacrosse and field hockey teams and earned many state and local athletic awards. She was instrumental in helping the Marple Newtown girl’s lacrosse team win a State Championship during her junior year.

Meg’s athleticism and dedication to field hockey and lacrosse earned her an athletic scholarship to the University of Delaware. She captained both teams while earning a Bachelor’s degree in History Education.

Meghan was a kind, loving and generous soul whose passion for lacrosse led her to coaching. She made a lasting impact on thousands of young female athletes by instilling in them confidence, hard work and a sense of team. She was an ambassador for women’s lacrosse everywhere she went. She coached in London, England and was later named head women’s lacrosse coach for the University of California at Santa Barbara (UCSB).

In 2003, Meg married Gregory Taylor in Ocean City, NJ. They soon moved to Atlanta where Meghan began to introduce lacrosse to girls and young women in the deep South. Meg established the first full-time girls-only lacrosse league in Atlanta. She was the head girl’s lacrosse coach for the Lovett School -- leading them to two State Championships. Four years later, Meghan and Greg moved to Charleston, SC where she began coaching for Bishop England High School’s girl’s lacrosse team. She was the driving force in establishing the first girls-only league in Charleston and, once again, became the driving force behind women’s lacrosse in her new home, Charleston, SC. At the time of her passing, Meg was the Director of Fins Lacrosse.

Lacrosse was her passion but family was everything to Meghan.

In 2008, Meghan and Greg had a sweet and kind daughter named Haley and in 2010 they welcomed another beautiful and affectionate daughter named Hannah into the world. Meg’s daughters were the light of her life and brought her joy every day. In lieu of flowers and gifts, the family encourages educational support for her girls via a GoFundMe page: https://www.gofundme.com/meghan039s-girls- education-fund?member=930904.

Meg is survived by her husband, Gregory; daughters, Haley (10) and Hannah (8); her mother, Katherine “Kay” Mulqueen; brother, Michael Mulqueen, and his wife, Tanya; sister, Erin Galyean and her husband, Kevin; and their children. Meghan also leaves behind her niece, nephews, numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends around the world.

A memorial service for Meghan was held at Holy Cross Episcopal Church on Daniel Island on Thursday October 18.

Nov 2, 1969 – Oct 22, 2018

On Monday, October 22, 2018, Charles Cranston Dennis, beloved husband and amazing father left this earth too soon as a result of a fatal car accident.

Charles was born November 2, 1969, in Anderson, Indiana. He resided on Daniel Island with his beautiful wife and four incredible boys. Although he was a dedicated visionary and entrepreneur, the job he cherished most was being a dear husband, devoted father, son, brother, family man, fantastic friend, and soccer dad to many.

Chuck chose Theresa his lifelong girlfriend and mother to his four boys, Alex (18yrs.), Thad (16yrs.), Charlie (14yrs.) and Mattie (12yrs.). A few weeks ago Alex and Thad came home to celebrate their youngest brother, Mattie’s, 12th birthday, as their third son, Charlie, organized the party for friends and family. Their greatest treasures in life are their four beautiful sons; family is what they cherished most.

Family and friends will remember Chuck’s relentless energy, hard work, honesty, and his smiley grin, that is seen in Mattie. Chuck’s memory will be carried on through his four boys, Alexander, Thaddeus, Charlie, and Mattie, as he poured into them to be courageous, adventurous, faithful, honest, smart, and independent men.

Chuck will be greeted by the saints who have gone before him including Robert Freman (Chuck’s Stepfather), Alexander Nicholas Walgus (Theresa’s Father), Charles and Martha Cassman (grandparents) and Frank and Nellie O’Donnell (grandparents).
