FIFTEEN YEARS AGO

In the April 15, 2004 edition of the paper, the feature story focused on the changing faces of women’s tennis.

The issue included an article about Venus and Serena Williams and how they have held the media spotlight since they began competing against each other in the late 90s. The two young women have set remarkable standards concerning women in the sports world, but also the overall advancement of women in society. The sisters maintain a wonderful attitude while competing against each other, dominating their individual playing fields, supporting charities, fulfilling endorsements and tackling a multitude of personal projects.

In other news, it was reported that Japan Karate Institute of Daniel Island had a strong showing at a belt testing.

TEN YEARS AGO

In the April 16, 2009 edition of the paper, top stories included a Family Circle Cup tennis feature on the global nature of the tournament as well as a feature on the changes made to the WTA Tour.

In top news, a group of island kids created “Zip It” - a line of t-shirts with the Daniel Island zip code, 29492.

There was also an article written by Daniel Island resident and Educational Planner Claire Law about being waitlisted for college and what to do about it. She said, “If you have been waitlisted at a college, first of all, don’t take it personally and don’t have a pity party!”

FIVE YEARS AGO

The April 17, 2014 issue of the paper featured the Daniel Island Library’s new branch manager Scott Johnson. Some of Johnson’s plans were to include partnering with area schools, exploring the possibility of adding new technology resources, and enhancing outreach to outlying areas.

In other news, Daniel Island celebrated its first annual Daniel Island Art Show. The show displayed the remarkable and varied talent of 36 island artists.

In Island Life, there was a picture collage with photos from the Daniel Island Easter Egg Hunt.
