FIFTEEN YEARS AGO

In the June 17, 2004 edition of the paper, the cover, centerfold, roving reporter and Kids Say featured Father’s Day, including tips for day trips with dad to Charles Towne Landing and the Animal Forest.

In other news, Jim Rozier, Berkeley County Supervisor at the time, informed island residents at a Daniel Island Neighborhood Association meeting that a library should open on the island in about six months; the 2004 South Carolina Police Corps cadets 15-member class was back on Daniel Island, marking the fourth year the Corps used Bishop England High School for defensive tactics training; Potts of Coffee opened on Memorial Day on the island (in space now occupied by Sermet’s Courtyard) and island residents were taking full advantage of its unique and varying atmosphere.

In sports news, the Flying Fish won their first home meet at Pierce Park Pool, defeating St. Andrews 271-253.

TEN YEARS AGO

In the June 18, 2009 edition of the paper, an article spotlighted sewer work and its potential impact on a 7,600 foot sewer force main that would tie-in at Pump Station 84 on Daniel Island Drive and extend down Cape Street and Etiwan Park Street before crossing under Seven Farms Drive.

In other top news, a story featured the Daniel Island Rotary Duck Drop winner, who won $15,000 in the race.

In business news, former Daniel Island water hole The Soda Water Grill opened a new location in Mt. Pleasant and island law firm Hinchey, Murray and Pagliarini moved into the BB&T building.

In sports news, the Flying Fish scored big at the team’s first meet, defeating Dunes West 343-190.

There was also an article which featured the artist of the week, Daniel Island resident Steve Hazard.

FIVE YEARS AGO

In the June 19, 2014 edition of the paper, a feature article provided an overview of development projects coming to Daniel Island. The four projects on the table at the time were Central Island Square retail space and apartments, Daniel Pointe Senior Living, and Wharf 7 apartments. Of the projects outlined, all four are now open on the island.

The centerspread article featured golf cart and LSV rules and regulations.

In Island Life, there were several pages devoted to photos of events, including the Daniel Island Kids Fishing Tournament and the Rotary Duck Race.

In political news, it was reported that there would be a runoff election the following week for Berkeley County supervisor between Bill Peagler and Dan Davis. Peagler went on to win the election.
