FIFTEEN YEARS AGO

Some of the coverage in the November 27, 2003 issue of The Daniel Island News included holiday themed articles. “Cultivate a Gratitude Attitude” by Amy Hovatter Hardee encouraged readers to consider practicing “thanksgiving” all year instead of just during November. One tip by the author was to record your gifts -- people, things, activities, events, animals, nature, etc., in a journal each day throughout the year.

Another article entitled “Safety for a Tasty Turkey” by Daniel Island resident Terrence E. Steyer, MD focused on food safety for the big day. For example, when thawing the turkey, Dr. Steyer suggested there are two safe ways to do it. In the refrigerator and in cold water. He stressed though, “DO NOT thaw your turkey on the kitchen counter as this increases the risk of bacterial growth.”

TEN YEARS AGO

In the November 27, 2008 issue of The Daniel Island News, the cover and centerfold featured a holiday story entitled, “Bring home the perfect tree - Cut your own at Toogoodoo Tree Farm.”

In top news, the State Ports Authority prepared to sell a 495-acre parcel of its Daniel Island property, and a city official assured local residents that they would have many opportunities to weigh in on possible future development there.

In sports news, lacrosse was featured as the fastest growing sport at the time, with coverage of a day-long lacrosse jamboree with over 140 participants in Etiwan Park.

FIVE YEARS AGO

The Cainhoy Plantation development plan presented to the City of Charleston Planning Commission was the featured story in the November 28, 2013 issue of The Daniel Island News. At 9,000 acres, the Cainhoy Plantation project has been dubbed the largest master plan to ever come before the City of Charleston.

In business news, Daniel Island resident Amy Justis, President of CMIT Solutions of Charleston, opened her new office offering a broad spectrum of proactive computer maintenance, monitoring, and virtual technology packages, along with quick response services for when unexpected crises occur.
