DI 'Santa Paws' event to benefit Valiant Animal Rescue & Relief
The last scraps of the turkey are almost gone and the air outside is getting a bit crisp. The sound of twinkly music can be heard all around, and stores are setting up cheerful displays of bliss. The holidays are finally here and with that comes the traditional set of holiday pictures. And this year, your pets can get in on the fun as well – capturing a special moment with Santa while helping out a worthy cause.
The 2nd Annual ‘Santa Paws’ will take place on Saturday, December 10, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Greystar Daniel Island Village Clubhouse. The event allows pet owners to have their furry family members pose with Santa for $20 per photo. All proceeds will benefit a well-deserving local charity - Valiant Animal Rescue and Relief.
Valiant Animal Rescue and Relief was founded in 2004 by the current Executive Director Michelle Reid. The local non-profit organization provides emergency animal disaster relief, support services during animal cruelty seizures, and the rehabilitation and re-homing of abused and neglected animals.
“It’s a spectacular service,” said Daniel Island resident Clyde Rush, Santa Paws creator. “An organization that does great, great work, but doesn’t get funding to help them out or the animals.”
Rush started Santa Paws on Daniel Island in 2015 to raise money for Valiant. Last year the event brought in $1,000 for the charity.
The event is a great time, said island photographer Lynn Cobb, who will be snapping pictures during the session. There will also be a giant Christmas tree and tons of treats being handed out by Santa’s elves for both people and dogs. According to Cobb, the best part is that Santa looks very authentic.
Cobb, of Lynn Cobb Photography, will conduct a mini photo shoot of each dog with Santa and will pick out the best photo that will be developed into a 5X7 print. The print can be picked on Thursday, December 15 from Lucia’s Premium Pet, 162 Seven Farms Drive Suite 115.
“It is important for people to have pictures of their pet,” Cobb said.
