Land use and zoning activities on Daniel Island

These are the issues being brought before the various City of Charleston boards and committees that are specific to land use and zoning on Daniel Island. All meetings are open for public comment except the TRC meetings. For more information on any of these proposed actions, including location and time of meetings, please email president@dineighborhoodassociation.org.

City of Charleston Technical Review Committee (TRC) — At the most recent meeting on May 30, it was requested that the construction plans for Hawthorne at Clements Ferry, a multi-family development, and a new Wambaw DR Horton office on Clements Ferry be revised and resubmitted to TRC. Also, the Wando Village preliminary subdivision plats were given minor comments and after in-house approval it is to go to Planning for stamping, and it was requested that the road plans associated with the project be revised and resubmitted to TRC. The next meeting will be held on June 6, but no issues of impact to the Daniel Island/Cainhoy are on the agenda.

City of Charleston Board of Zoning Appeals – Site Design (BZA-SD) — At the most recent meeting on June 5, board members discussed the request for a variance from Sec. 54-327 to allow the removal of 46 grand trees and a request for a variance from Sec. 54-330 to allow a reduced impervious construction setback bear the bases of 13 grand trees on Clements Ferry Road, and the request for a variance from Sec. 54-327 to allow the removal of one grand tree at 145 Nobels Point Street on Daniel Island. The meeting took place after this issue went to print. Look for results in a future issue.

City of Charleston Board of Zoning Appeals – Zoning (BZA-Z) — The most recent meeting was held on June 4 with no issues of impact to the Daniel Island/Cainhoy area discussed.

City of Charleston Design Review Board (DRB) — The most recent meeting was held on June 3 with no issues of impact to the Daniel Island/Cainhoy area discussed.

City of Charleston Planning Commission (PC) — The next meeting will be held on June 19. The agenda is not yet published.
