Land use and zoning activities on Daniel Island

These are the issues being brought before the various City of Charleston boards and committees that are specific to land use and zoning on Daniel Island. All meetings are open for public comment except the TRC meetings. For more information on any of these proposed actions, including location and time of meetings, please email president@dineighborhoodassociation.org.

City of Charleston Technical Review Committee (TRC) — At the next meeting on July 25, the subdivision plat and road construction plans for a 63-lot phase in the Oak Bluff development on Clements Ferry Road will be discussed.

City of Charleston Board of Zoning Appeals – Site Design (BZA-SD) — At the next meeting on August 7, among the items on the agenda to be discussed are the request for a variance to allow the removal of one grand tree at 145 Nobels Point on Daniel Island and the request for a one-year extension to the variances granted on 8/3/2017 for the removal of four grand trees and reduced impervious construction setback near the bases of 17 grand trees at the Oak Bluff development on Clements Ferry Road.

City of Charleston Board of Zoning Appeals – Zoning (BZA-Z) — The next meeting will be held on August 6; the agenda is not yet published.

City of Charleston Design Review Board (DRB) — At the most recent meeting on July 15, the request for conceptual approval for the construction of a commercial building at 873-877 Island Park Drive was deferred with staff and board comments, including to: Study the concrete paneling to explore depth and reveal to support the building pattern; restudy the roofline to break up the roofline; restudy the number of downspouts; restudy the large window openings to be more proportional with the second-story fenestration; restudy the cap of the two-story entry to provide a floating roof plane; restudy detailing to be more delicate; restudy space between the two buildings to be deeper; and restudy the plants in this location to be more in scale with the space. The next meeting will be held on August 5; the agenda is not yet published.

City of Charleston Planning Commission (PC) — The next meeting will be held on August 21. The agenda is not yet published.
