Land use and zoning activities on Daniel Island

These are the issues being brought before the various City of Charleston boards and committees that are specific to land use and zoning on Daniel Island. All meetings are open for public comment except the TRC meetings. City of Charleston Technical Review Committee (TRC) — At the most recent meeting on May 2, the preliminary plat, road construction, and site plan for a new apartment development on Robert Daniel Drive were asked to be revised and resubmitted to TRC. At the next meeting on May 9, the revised construction plans and site prep for Daniel Island Self Storage will be discussed.

City of Charleston Board of Zoning Appeals – Site Design (BZA-SD) — At the most recent meeting on May 1, the request for a variance to allow the removal of one grand tree at 145 Captains Island Drive was withdrawn. The next meeting will be on June 5, and the agenda is not yet published.

City of Charleston Board of Zoning Appeals – Zoning (BZA-Z) — At the most recent meeting on May 7, a request for a variance (after-the-fact) from Sec. 54-823 Daniel Island Master Plan zoning regulations to allow a section of stairs, elevated HVAC platform and storage building to encroach within the required 10-ft. buffer setback from the Visual Buffer Zone at 326 Ralston Creek Street was discussed.

City of Charleston Design Review Board (DRB) — At the most recent meeting on May 6, the request for conceptual approval of a new Fairchild Marriott hotel was discussed.

City of Charleston Planning Commission (PC) — The next meeting will be held on May 15 with no issues of impact to Daniel Island on the agenda.
