Land use and zoning activities on Daniel Island
These are the issues being brought before the various City of Charleston boards and committees that are specific to land use and zoning on Daniel Island. All meetings are open for public comment except the TRC meetings. For more information on any of these proposed actions, including location and time of meetings, please email president@dineighbor hoodassociation.org.
As Hurricane Dorian was approaching at the time this issue went to print, please check the City of Charleston website at www.charleston-sc.gov to determine if any of the meetings mentioned below have been postponed.
City of Charleston Technical Review Committee (TRC) — At the most recent meeting on Aug. 29, committee members asked that the renovation plans for Daniel Island Children’s Park and the waterfront park improvements at the end of River Landing Drive be revised and resubmitted. At the next meeting on Sept. 5, the site plan, preliminary subdivision plat, and road construction plans for Woodfield apartment development and Robert Daniel Drive will be discussed.
City of Charleston Board of Zoning Appeals – Site Design (BZA-SD) — Among agenda items scheduled for the meeting on Sept. 4: the request for a variance from Section 54-347 to allow a reduced landscape buffer on Fairchild Street; the request for a variance from Section 54-327 to allow the removal of one grand tree at 237 Black Powder Lane; and the request for a variance from Section 54-327 to allow the removal of one grand tree at 106 Nobels Point.
City of Charleston Board of Zoning Appeals – Zoning (BZA-Z) — A meeting was scheduled for Sept. 3, with no issues of impact to Daniel Island/Cainhoy discussed.
City of Charleston Design Review Board (DRB) — The next meeting will be held on Sept. 9. The agenda is not yet published.
City of Charleston Planning Commission (PC) — The next meeting will be held on Oct. 16. The agenda is not yet published.
