Land use and zoning activities on Daniel Island

These are the issues being brought before the various City of Charleston boards and committees that are specific to land use and zoning on Daniel Island. City of Charleston Technical Review Committee (TRC) — At the next meeting on Feb. 14, the preliminary subdivision plat and road construction plans for River Landing Village will be discussed.

City of Charleston Board of Zoning Appeals – Site Design (BZA-SD) — The next meeting will be held on March 6. The agenda is not yet published.

City of Charleston Board of Zoning Appeals – Zoning (BZA-Z) — The next meeting will be held on Feb. 19. The agenda is not yet published.

City of Charleston Design Review Board (DRB) — At the most recent meeting on Feb. 4, the request for preliminary approval for the construction of Saint Clare of Assisi Catholic Church on Daniel Island was approved with staff and board comments, including for signage to be submitted to staff separately, site/building lighting to be studied and submitted to staff, and the southern courtyard to be restudied to be something more special with plantings and for it to feel more like a cloister courtyard. The next meeting will be held on Feb. 19. The agenda is not yet published.

City of Charleston Planning Commission (PC) — At the next meeting on Feb. 20, the commission will discuss a request for approval to amend Chapter 54 of the Code of the City of Charleston (Zoning Ordinance) by amending Section 54-263, the Daniel Island Master Plan zoning text, to add provisions that allow the visual buffer zone setback to be reduced or eliminated and allow the visual buffer zone to be reduced when conditions specified in the new provisions.
