New location announced for DI Performing Arts Center
The proposed Daniel Island Performing Arts Center (DIPAC) is moving to a new, more visible location in the island’s commercial district - a welcome announcement to those working behind the scenes to bring South Carolina’s first League of Resident Theatres site to Daniel Island.
According to DIPAC founder Mary Gould, the complex’s planned location has shifted from an area behind the UBS Center to a parcel that fronts Island Park Drive (see map). Gould praised the Daniel Island Company for working with DIPAC on the site change, calling it a “huge upgrade on land and location.” An amended contract was executed with the Daniel Island Company on the lot on February 1.
“I was delighted with our original location, although there were some challenges specifically with pedestrian access and walkability to shops and restaurants,” said Gould. “The new location significantly enhances access and will feel that much more like the urban setting of Broadway Theatres. We are thrilled and grateful to The Daniel Island Company for this opportunity!”
Commercial real estate broker Pete Harper of Lee & Associates, who assisted Gould in securing the property, praised the new location and said it would make the DIPAC “even more relevant to our local and regional economies.”
“A 450 seat full production LORT theater of this caliber, with all the various types of plays, musicals, concerts and kids events will have stunning impact on all the Daniel Island restaurants and retailers, while drawing patrons not only from Daniel Island but also from surrounding counties and states,” added Harper, who also serves on the DIPAC Advisory Committee. “This location will also be much more conducive to the use of the facility by residents, schools and businesses as a public gathering space for events, meetings and social gatherings. It is a win/win for everyone. I look forward to the added amenity to our Island Town.”
