NEW DI APARTMENT COMPLEX IN PLANNING PROCESS

Construction on a new apartment and townhome community off Robert Daniel Drive could begin by the end of the year. According to Mike Schwarz of Woodfield Investments, the developer of the project, the complex is moving through the Daniel Island and City of Charleston approval process with an anticipated groundbreaking in either November or December. Completion is expected in 2021.

The 16-acre site plan for Woodfield Daniel Island 2, to be located adjacent to Wharf 7, Daniel Pointe Retirement Community and Wellmore, calls for 233 apartments and 18 townhomes along the marsh.

“They are rental townhomes, which will be new to the market,” noted Schwarz, who added that the new complex is being designed specifically to cater to downsizing baby boomers. “And we are excited about the prospects of that.”

The project was on the agenda at the Charleston Technical Review Committee’s June 27 meeting. Construction plans and associated improvements were discussed during the session and the committee requested that the plan be revised and resubmitted to the TRC. Also addressed by the committee were the preliminary plat and road constructions plans for the extension of Robert Daniel Drive and the addition of a cul-de-sac, as part of the new complex. After receiving minor comments on the plan, the applicant was asked to make some revisions and resubmit.

Woodfield Investments has developed a number of properties across the southeast, including the Wharf 7 apartment community on Daniel Island and Cooper River Farms off Clements Ferry Road. The same developer also has plans to construct an apartment complex on Hopewell Lane within the Cainhoy Plantation development.

The TRC also reviewed a preliminary site plan for Phase 1C of the Oak Bluff subdivision off Clements Ferry Road, as well as road construction plans associated with the project, which is being developed by Oak Bluff Development LLC. The phase includes 63 lots on 63.2 acres. The applicant listed on the agenda was Seamon Whiteside & Associates. Both plans received minor comments and are to be revised and resubmitted to the TRC.

BERKELEY COUNTY DISCOURAGES CITIZENS FROM PAYING TAXES ON OUTSIDE PAYMENT NETWORKS

To avoid late fees, penalties and potential scams, Berkeley County Treasurer Carolyn Umphlett is urging citizens to pay property and vehicle taxes online or in-person at the Berkeley County Administration Building, located at 1003 Highway 52 in Moncks Corner. Residents can pay taxes online here: https://taxes.berkeleycountysc.gov/#/

Some Berkeley County citizens have recently used an outside payment network on Doxo.com. On this website, payments are NOT immediately processed and citizens are receiving late fees and penalties. It can take one to two weeks for the Treasurer’s Office to receive payment from this outside network.

Anyone with questions should contact the Berkeley County Treasurer’s Office at 843-719-4040.
