DANIEL ISLAND EXCHANGE CLUB DONATES $7,400 TO LOCAL CHARITIES

Several organizations that serve the community and address child prevention abuse issues have received $7,400 in donations from The Daniel Island Exchange Club to help further their causes. The funds were raised on Daniel Island through the organization’s Pinwheels for Great Childhood Program in April. The club presented the contributions at their May 28 business meeting to representatives of Child Abuse America, the Dee Norton Child Advocacy Center, Prevent Child Abuse America, Darkness to Light, and The Humanities Foundation.

Club secretary Jim Herzog thanked primary sponsors The Daniel Island Community Fund, First Citizens Bank, and Daniel Island Real Estate for supporting their Pinwheels campaign, as well as Refuel, Daniel Island School and Bishop England High School.

BLACKBAUD’S TONY BOOR NAMED CHAIR OF THE 2020 CHARLESTON HEART BALL

The American Heart Association (AHA) recently announced that Tony Boor of Blackbaud will chair the 23rd Annual Charleston Heart Ball, which is set to take place on Friday, May 1, 2020, at the Gaillard Center.

In his role as chair, Boor will work with local leaders to support the Charleston Heart Ball and expand the AHA’s mission.

Boor is the chief financial officer and executive vice president of finance and administration at Blackbaud. He is responsible for the company’s financial reporting and controls, corporate IT, investor relations, treasury, legal, real estate, and administrative services. Boor and his wife, Rebecca Sue, are dedicated servant leaders in the Charleston community and were the Charleston Heart Ball’s Open Your Heart Chairs in 2019. This year, they are extending their involvement with the American Heart Association and are helping to spread the AHA’s mission in the community.

“Working with the American Heart Association to create healthier and stronger communities is both a professional honor and personal passion of mine. The AHA is leading the charge in CPR trainings, educating others about the signs and symptoms of heart disease, and funding lifesaving research,” said Boor. “That’s why I’m so excited to have the opportunity to make an even bigger impact on Charleston’s health alongside our incredible Executive Leadership Team.”

Through the generous support of the community and local Life is Why sponsors MUSC Health and the InterTech Group, the American Heart Association was able to celebrate the lives saved and improved in the Lowcountry. All proceeds will support AHA-funded cardiovascular disease research, helping to improve the lives of residents in the area.

EAST COOPER COMMUNITY OUTREACH PARTNERS WITH LOCAL BUSINESSES

East Cooper Community Outreach (ECCO), a four-star rated Charity Navigator nonprofit, has joined South Carolina’s first Greenwise Market in Mount Pleasant, SC as its newest community partner. Greenwise Market will be supporting ECCO through its Good Works program. Patrons must designate ECCO as their nonprofit of choice at checkout for the customer-appointed proceeds to benefit the organization.

ECCO is calling for other local businesses to follow Greenwise’s example and get involved to support nonprofits in their very own backyard. While Greenwise is donating a portion of sales, other organizations can donate goods, organize volunteer days and more.

“ECCO can only serve this community with the support of this community,” said Stephanie Kelley, executive director of ECCO. “We are so excited to engage with our community to celebrate 30 years of helping neighbors help themselves, and hope to see others take this milestone as an opportunity to get involved with a local nonprofit.”

ECCO provides safety-net services in three main areas: basic needs, health and empowerment. They help neighbors in financial distress while empowering them to create better lives for themselves, their families and their communities. To celebrate their 30th anniversary, ECCO recently launched a 30-week campaign that will carry through Giving Tuesday on December 3, 2019. In addition to digital initiatives, ECCO also began distributing “ECCO Partner” window clings for supporters and businesses to proudly share their involvement as stewards of the nonprofit.

With services going beyond their client choice wellness pantry, ECCO offers plenty of opportunities for organizations to get involved, including healthcare, professional development, fundraising, the clothing closet and more.

“We’ve had business and community organizations help in ways that run the gamut from weekly church food drives to leading a workshop for clients,” said Kelley. “We welcome our community members’ generosity in order to serve over 2,000 families each year.”
