YOUNG PHILANTHROPISTS COMPETITION FOR DI YOUTH!

School may be out of session for local students, but there are still valuable lessons to be learned in the summer months, especially when it comes to giving back.

A new opportunity has launched for Daniel Island youth that celebrates the concept of philanthropy while supporting a number of worthy causes. It’s called the Daniel Island Kids Young Philanthropy Contest and the campaign will run from now until end of August. As part of the competition, youth are invited to raise money for a select group of non-profit organizations, with matching funds up to $5000 per charity to be donated by the Daniel Island Community Foundation. Fundraising efforts can include, but are not limited to, lemonade stands, bake sales, balloon raffles, car washes, new “GoFundMe” pages, and more.

The Daniel Island Community Foundation was set up as a vehicle for Daniel Island residents and businesses to fund non-profit initiatives. A resident advisory committee has been established to assist in identifying charitable causes and organizations important to Daniel Island residents. The Foundation and the resident advisory committee have set up four categories that represent the areas of giving that the community is focused on for the calendar year 2018 (human services, children, education and nature/environment). Each category has corresponding non-profit organizations which will serve as the focus of fundraising efforts.

Proceeds from those efforts throughout the year, including the proceeds from the Daniel Island Kids Young Philanthropists Contest, will be doubled up to $5,000 per non-profit organization when donated via the Daniel Island Community Foundation.

The young philanthropist who raises the most money through the summer (and donates via the Daniel Island Community Foundation) will win a $100 Visa gift card. Matrix Kids Rooms of Mount Pleasant is also offering the winner a free desk (or $100 store credit). In addition, the top 25 in the competition will be invited to attend a celebration at Sky Zone (with free 60-minute jump time). Please see the Daniel Island Property Owners Association website for additional information, including a list of participating non-profits: https://danielisland.com/community/announcements/di-summer-young-philant....
