Police Blotter - May 31, 2018
The following cases were taken from the City of Charleston Police reports filed with Team 5 on Daniel Island between April 23 and May 16.
DOMESTIC VIOLENCE
Officers met with a man outside of his downtown Daniel Island apartment complex at 4 a.m. on the morning of April 23. According to a police report, the man’s wife had come home late, and was believed to be under the influence, when she began throwing household items at him and striking him. The woman was charged with third degree domestic violence.
THEFT FROM A MOTOR VEHICLE
Between the evening of April 25 and the morning of April 26, a pistol was stolen from a motor vehicle in a resident’s Etiwan Park driveway. According to police, there was no sign of forced entry and it did not appear that the vehicle was locked. Nothing else was stolen.
AGGRAVATED ASSAULT
At 1:30 a.m. on the morning of April 29, officers responded to a physical disturbance in the parking lot near an Island Park Drive restaurant. The complainant stated that three men had attacked his friend with a belt and their fists. The victim’s brother attempted to intervene, but the suspects then attacked him. The victims were transported to the hospital. The case is still under investigation.
BURGLARIES
Officers responded on April 29 to a call in the Etiwan Park neighborhood. When they arrived, the victim reported that the day prior, she had arrived home to find dog waste bags on her porch, a household item missing, and a wet bath towel next to her shower. According to police, the alleged offender may have been a former family member. There was no sign of forced entry.
In a separate report, between April 2 and May 2, a pistol and accessories were reported stolen from a resident’s bedroom in a Daniel Island apartment complex. The victim told police that he leaves the back door unlocked all the time and suspects a young family member who used to live with him.
On the morning of May 16, construction workers along Clements Ferry Road noticed large containers that had been broken in to. Several thousand dollars’ worth of tools had been stolen from the containers. The case is under investigation.
ANIMAL SERVICE RESPONSE
At an apartment complex on Clements Ferry Road between May 10 and May 11, a man reported that he was greeted by a neighbor and his two small mixed breed dogs in a hallway. Upon reaching the end of the hallway, the neighbor was unable to restrain one of the dogs and it bit the victim on the leg.
