Charleston Breast Center Event

BLESSING OF ANIMALS

To honor the feast day of Saint Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of animals and all creation, Saint Clare of Assisi Catholic Church will hold a Blessing of Animals on Saturday, Oct. 3 at 10 am on the Bishop England lawn on the corner of Seven Farms Dr. and Etiwan Park St. All welcome. Dogs must be on leashes. Cats must be in carriers. Other animals are invited as well. In the event of rain the event will be cancelled.

TGIFF

Thank Goodness It’s First Friday, the longest running, informal social gathering of Daniel Island residents, will be on Oct. 2 at Daniel’s Landing Clubhouse 6:30-9 pm. Come out to celebrate National Name your Car Day or just come out to meet new neighbors and old friends. Bring an hors d’ oeuvre to share and your favorite beverage. FREE Women’s Self Defense Classes in Oct.

As a public service, free classes will be held on the last four Thursdays of the month: Oct. 8, 15, 22, and 29, 8 to 9:30 p.m. at Japan Karate Institute Daniel Island: 295-B Seven Farms Dr. Open to all females aged 14 and older. 2nd Annual Art in the Park!

Calling artists of all ages and skill levels! Come to the Daniel Island Children’s Park on Saturday, October 10, for the 2nd Annual Art in the Park. Join the Daniel Island Historical Society and the Art Guild of Daniel Island for a day of fun and creativity as we honor the community’s beautiful and majestic Grand Live Oaks! This special event is being held as part of the DIHS Live Oak Campaign. Create your own rendition of an Oak Tree near Children’s Park and the River Landing Drive “Oaks Allee” using any medium. Poets and other writers welcome! There is no charge to participate, but artists are asked to bring their own supplies, including a chair and easel (if needed), as well as art materials. Light refreshments will be provided. Works will be displayed at a future date. HOW TO STOP THE CRAZY CYCLE!

Totally Fit presents Christian Counselor Gene Wagstaff, founder of Word of God Counseling Center in Greenville. Wagstaff will present on Oct. 12, 7 pm at the Church of the Holy Cross, 299 Seven Farms Dr. He works with people from all walks of life to help them become free from personal issues including depression, anger, addictive behavior as well as family and marital issues. Refreshments provided. Parents Guide to Building a Faster Athlete! This workshop will be taught by Ben Tonon and will provide parents a better understanding of how their children can reach their athletic potential by improving self esteem, running mechanics, strength, flexibility and nutrition. Golf and Glow

On Friday, Nov. 13, join in the 3rd annual Party, Golf and Glow benefiting the Woodward Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation. 9 holes of glow night golf and a party all in the same night. 5:30 pm tee time, 7:30 pm, party with auction at the Daniel Island Club. Come and glow all night!

Park Day

Park Day on Daniel Island festival is Sat., Nov. 14, at Children’s Park, 11 am - 4 pm. A fall tradition in the Lowcountry, Park Day is a day of outdoor family fun for all ages that showcases and supports local charitable organizations. An exciting lineup of activities, food and beverage vendors will be announced in the coming weeks!

The History of Western Civilization

A college-level humanities course will be offered at the Daniel Island Branch of the Berkeley County Library System this fall. The FREE course will be taught on Wednesdays at 10:30 am, from Sep. 9 through Nov.18. Participants can attend at any time as the sessions each stand on their own. This humanities course seeks to align history, art, music, philosophy, invention, religion, science, mathematics, language and literature chronologically across several cultures. Willingway Continuing Care Meetings

Every Monday 6:30-7:30 pm at The Church of the Holy Cross, 299 Seven Farms Dr. Anyone with addiction issues–you, a family member, a friend regardless of whether you’ve been a patient of Willingway, is invited. Continuing Care provides a community for addicts, their family and friends to talk about their experiences and find ways to connect with 12-step recovery. Just show up, there is no charge.
