Ten and Five Years Ago in The Daniel Island News

In the July 27, 2006 issue it was reported that there were one hundred and nineteen island youth ranging in age from 5 -18 who competed on the Daniel Island Flying Fish swim team. That year the team’s standing was bolstered by several swimmers scoring in the top ten of their events, with Ben Detar capturing the league championship in the 11-12 boys 50 meter freestyle. Detar also took second in the 50 meter backstroke, fifth in the 100 meter individual medley and seventh as a member of the 11-12 mixed medley 200 meter relay team and eighth as a member of the11-12 boys 200 meter freestyle relay team.
In island news, we featured ways to keep cool. One way is by going to the area waterparks. There are three amazing waterparks to choose from right in our own backyards. Splash Island, Splash Zone and Whirlin’ Waters Adventure Waterpark are each part of the Charleston County Park and Recreation Commission.
