Ten and Five Years Ago in The Daniel Island News
In the July 28, 2011 issue of the Daniel Island News, the Daniel Island branch of the Berkeley County Library celebrated five years on the island. It was reported that between July 2010 and May 2011, the library welcomed some 67,700 patrons through its doors, a ten percent increase over the previous year. In May of 2011, they had over 6,000 visitors, some 400 in one day. They had 5,910 cardholders, up from the 2,058 who enlisted just after the library opened in 2007. Circulation continued to skyrocket at the Daniel Island location, with almost 122,000 items checked out over the last fiscal year.
Also in the paper were summer book recommendations from our readers.
The following is a list that was submitted to us then: The Help by Kathryn Stockett, All three of Stieg Larsson’s books: The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, The Girl Who Played With Fire, and The Girl Who Kicked the Hornets’ Nest, The Omnivore’s Dilemma by Michael Pollan, The Fixer Upper by Mary Kay Andrews, Water For Elephants by Sara Gruen, Unbroken by Laura Hillenbrand, and Live Wire by Harlan Coben. If you haven’t read these books it might be a good time to now.
