9/11 Heroes Run!
The 7th Annual 9/11 Heroes Run on Daniel Island drew a record number of participants last Saturday, Sept. 8. Organizers called the event the “best one yet.” After a moving opening ceremony featuring several guests of honor, including double amputee, veteran and Paralympic athlete Rob Jones, the runners and walkers took to the streets in a patriotic display of color and spirit.
The event honors the nearly 3,000 lives lost on September 11, 2001, while also recognizing the service and sacrifice of military and first responders. Proceeds are split between the Travis Manion Foundation and local first responder organizations. Since its debut in 2012, the 9/11 Heroes Run Charleston has donated more than $95,000 to local heroes, through partnerships with 12 different first responder organizations. This year, funds will help purchase lifesaving trauma kits for more than 20 area law enforcement agencies.
