Am I good enough?

Each morning I start my day by reading a short story in the Daily Guidepost. One recent story was written by woman who was reentering the workforce after years of being a stay-at-home mom. She shared her concerns and worries that although once upon a time she was a mover and shaker in the corporate world, she felt her most recently honed skills of motherhood would not lend her credibility in her job search. Although she didn’t write it, my take away was that she felt as if she was not good enough.

It’s not only stay-at-home moms entering the workforce that feel this way. Recently, I met with two men who, in mid and late life, were making career changes due to downsizing in their corporate jobs and other factors beyond their control. I also met with recent college grads looking to enter the workforce. Parents worry they may be falling short in raising their children. Teens stress over their college applications.

Many of these people struggle with the same question: Am I good enough?

I know I sure have over the years when facing various changes and challenges.

I googled the phrase/question and over 770 million search results came back.

We live in a society where no one thinks they are good enough!

If you are one of the millions who ask that question, my answer to you, and to me, is: Yes, you are good enough. We are all good enough but we can all be even better. Don’t let the need for improvement stop you – let it spur you forward.
