Call your mom at least once a week
With my kids spread around the country and the world, I often communicate my refrigerator wisdom via Facebook Messenger.
Several months ago, I messaged, “Write this down and post it on your refrigerators: Call your mom at least once a week.”
I wrote that message because I miss my mom, who passed away a year and half ago. Now I can’t call her.
I wrote it because my mother-in-law passed away the week before I sent the message. Now my husband can’t call his mom.
I wrote it because I miss my kids. And I want them to call.
Within moments of sending the message, Carly replied, “Ha Ha, Mom, I call you every day.” True.
Ben’s comment, also within a few minutes, “I call you pretty often.”
Jackson, who didn’t chime in on the group message, is in an “I’ll call you when I need you” phase. So, I do hear from him!
They, and we as parents, might not always realize it – but moms learn from their kids and kids learn from their moms, even in telephone calls, and even as we get older. And it isn’t just about learning. A little love, unspoken in the form of a phone call that might only revolve around the weather, lifts our spirits and connects our souls.
If you still can, call your mom today.
